Yesterday the Femtinos Aliens visited Long Lane Library for a Mystical Maze tree adventure!
The Femtinos had found a special tree which had lots of branches . As the aliens climbed onto the maze of branches, each branch had a portal which led them to a different adventure!
The Earthlings worked together to create a giant Mystical Maze Tree. They then designed their own characters and aliens and created amazing comic book stories!

Yesterday we had our first workshop directed at parents only, introducing ways in which home educating parents can bring key Creative and Critical Thinking skills into learning at home.
Julie from potential plus introduced Creative Thinking skills during the morning session. No better way to start a creative thinking session than by getting parents to create an animal using pipecleaners! There was no getting way from the fact that the day would be about taking away practical ideas which could be applied in the home environment.
During the afternoon, Julie presented on the topic of Critical Thinking, covering areas such as Bloom's Taxonomy. The day ended by sharing useful resources and websites for covering a range of activities and learning in the home.
There was lots of information to take away from the day, and we hope the parents enjoyed it and took away at least one new idea from the workshops!
During Feb half term last week, the Femtino Aliens visited the Warwickshire County, where a series of Build a City workshops took place in across 4 libraries!
The young Earthlings helped the aliens come up with lots of different ideas for building an alien city! The Earthlings learnt about electric circuits and wired up their buildings with components to light it up! Workshops took place at Warwick and Alcester on Monday 17th Feb and Atherstone and Rugby Library on Thursday 20th Feb 2014.

A lovely testimonial from Stella (Principal Librarian):
In Warwickshire Libraries we have just hosted 4 sessions in different parts of the county with Femtinos, very successfully. Syeda and her colleagues presented “Build a city and light it up!” offering 7-12-year-olds the chance to make a building and then assemble a circuit with light bulb and switch to light the building from inside. All the participants were fully engaged for a couple of hours, and pleased to take away a practical craft product. We were particularly thrilled to be able to offer an older age group an activity to suit their needs and were delighted at the whole way the workshops were presented and carried out. We are already being asked when we can use Femtinos again!
Principal Librarian: schools and Reading
The Public closed in November 2013 and the Femtinos have had to find a new home. They have decided to settle at Smethwick Library! To mark this special occasion, the Femtinos are had a moving-in party for all their Earthling friends on Saturday 4th January!
This week, the Femtinos are holding a number of Home Education Circuit Car workshops!
We have had a few sessions. Have a look at the photos so far. More will be added as the week progresses!
Young Earthlings briefly learnt about electric circuits and then had a go at making their very own circuit; either with lights bulbs (for headlights) or a motor (so the car can run!
During the two hours, the circuits were ready and young Earthlings took home materials to finish off their cars fully if they had not done so during the sessions.
Keep a look out for future circuit workshops....
The Femtinos have moved into their new home at Smethwick Library.
From December 2013, we will be based at:
Community Room 1
We have a moving-in party on Saturday 4th January! Be sure not to miss it!
Thursday's party was a great success! We had many young Earthlings come and join in the celebrations.
There were many party games, including pass the parcel, musical chairs, musical statues and musical bumps! The Earthlings made their own alien inspired fridge magnets, designed their goody bags and created some awesome birthday cards for the Femtinos!
The highlight of the event was the amazing three tier Femtino cake! It tasted as good as it looked!
Sadly this was the final workshop for Femtinos at The Public, before they move out on the 14th November. It has been an amazing 2 years here, and the memories the aliens have created within this building will definitely be lasting a lifetime!
This October half-term will be the Femtinos 2nd Birthday!
We will be holding a party for all young Earthlings, on Thursday 31st October 2013 at The Public in West Bromwich. Join us for party games, pass the parcel, craft activities, Femtinos Stall and even a Femtinos Birthday Cake!
Keep a look out for more details coming very soon!!!!!!!!
The Femtino Alien's base on Earth, The Public.
On Friday 9th August, it was announced that The Public will be closing at the end of November. This is very sad news for the Femtinos, who will be celebrating their second birthday at the building in October half-term.
The arts centre has provided Earthlings with a great learning space, where Femtinos have delivered over 50 educational learning and arts workshops over the school holidays and weekends since October 2011.
Femtino theatre show in Oct 2012
In October 2012, the very first Femtinos theatre event took place in the green room on level 2 of the Public. The Femtinos had crash landed and needed help in piecing together their broken spaceship. The Earthlings came to the rescue and helped build the spaceship pieces through a series of workshops. With the help of storytellers David and Chip, the Earthlings help teleport the pieces through the Create-a-port!
The lovely artwork of all the Earthlings was exhibited at The Public in May 2013. The popular exhibition featured work from various past workshops, including creative writing sessions, home education workshops, and a giant Chinese Dragon from the May half-term China themed workshop!
The Femtinos are half way through their summer workshops, where Earthlings are building a model city for the Aliens! The city is currently in progress. There is a display on level 3 of some of the imaginative architectural creations by some of the young Earthlings who have attended so far! Join in the fun on either Tuesdays or Thursdays from 11:30 to 2:30 as there won't be a next summer at The Public :(
