This week we welcome the latest member to the Femtinos team, Gino, and hear his first impressions on our dynamic learning workshops.
Science: Bringing the elements to life!
After getting familiar with the symbols and structures of elements from the periodic table, it is important to see their properties in action. This week in Science we expanded on our knowledge and saw the exciting task of exploring Helium and Carbon. We put pencil to paper to create our own circuit using graphite in pencils, which saw electrical current pass from a battery through our pencils and paper to light bulbs! Helium bought liquid solution to life by creating bubbles which took flight from the desk floating to the ceiling, being a fun way to indicate how light helium is.
Engaging with materials brings a better understanding as experiences from experiments can enable you to instantly remember or relate to a specific topic.
Words from Gino
From spending time with the Femtinos team and observing workshops, it is refreshing to see such great approach to learning, fully engaging with students and bringing a fresh dynamic. Greatly differing from the uninspiring methods in schools of powerpoint presentations and reading from books. The children are very receptive to the workshops being hands on with the topics they are learning, in turn this is encouraging them to want to find out more enhancing their knowledge and experience.
I am very excited to be joining the team as I aim to bring my experience and enthusiasm to encourage the next generation of Scientists.
Gino comes from a Biomedical Science background having both worked in industrial science and also tutored age groups 10-16. Gino is passionate to make science a fun and informative subject as there are so many interesting and exciting ways it can be taught. He joins our growing science workshop team with his wealth of experience in industry, and as a positive role model for our young little scientists.
